Wind Dancers party January 21 2007

Filed in Blog

Barb and her bikeEvery year our club holds its holiday party in January, on the understanding that everyone is far too full of chocolate and has a calendar much too full to do anything of the sort in December. The party also serves as the informal handing over of the various roles to the new officers, and food. Lots and lots of good, good food.

I rode there with Barb who looks sharp in her Christmas present, a lavender motorcycle jacket. We arrived about the same time as Laura, and after that a steady stream of people arrived and decked the table with a great deal of most excellent food. We chatted and ate–copiously. It is traditional.

Pressies   The perfect prize!

Then we did the gift exchange. Each person chooses a gift to unwrap or “steals” one that is already unwrapped. It seemed this time that almost everyone got something they loved straight away, so there was very little exchanging going on, to Diana’s disappointment. (She prefers a much more cutthroat game.) I squee’ed when I unwrapped mine, trying not to get too attached to it because I was only number two and I figured someone else would steal it. Nobody did, but they had considered it and didn’t do so because they felt I should have it (awwwww). What was this o-so-perfect prize, you ask? “The AMA Ride Guide to America” and a tiny motorcycle trip journal.

Next came the awards-giving, as presented by Jodie. Barb got her well-deserved club participation award: she was given a book about a woman who, in 1935, motorcycled from the north of Africa down to the south…solo. What an incredible adventure! Elizabeth won the mileage contest for riding something like 21,000 miles in a year, and got a very apt prize: “The Long Way Round.” Laura was second, somewhere around 14,000. But what I was not expecting was this:

I placed third!

ChocolatesMm, dessertNow that we’d had a chance to let lunch settle down, there was definitely room for dessert where formerly there had been none. Not to mention Karen’s fantastic home-made chocolates. We had coffee too.

It was a fun afternoon with all the right elements–we were relaxed, friendly and well-fed. I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

I don’t know if this will be my last Wind Dancers annual party. It really depends on where Don and I end up post-RV.

But I really do hope not.

All the pretty motorcycles

    Cool! I went and looked.

Ah, but you’re not in, ‘cos that event is girlz only. :-P

I couldn’t carry chocolate when I was riding in Nevada last year ’cause it would have turned to molten goo within seconds.
