We went on a boat! Part 2
Filed in Blog, Day Trips, Photo EssaysPart 1 of this photo essay is here in case you missed it. ;)
At some stage we got hungry so we picked out a nice spot for a pic-a-nic. After a few hours on the water it had to have shade.

On the menu: fresh bread rolls with salami and provolone cheese; apple juice; picante pasta salad; spinach dip and baby organic carrots; and a wonderful sweet slab of watermelon. Nom!
My companions laughed when I said “Look at the yacht!”

Just when I think I’ve learned to speak American, they tell me that a yacht is a big boat that carries passengers, like a mini cruise ship. They call this a sailboat.
But as it turned out, it was neither…it turned on its engine and tootled away.
The shores of the lake were lined with old tree stumps. Many looked like ents, creeping their way down to the water. When the reservoir was created, trees were cut down but the stumps were left in. Most of these are underwater under normal circumstances.

Not this year. Actually, the marina we used will not be able to use its boat ramp in another week, as the water line will be too far down to actually launch boats. :: sigh ::

We got out onto the water. An osprey (above) sailed right overhead. Then another big raptor of some variety cruised by. I’m not sure what this one is– I’d say golden eagle but its tail looks wrong, so maybe it’s a turkey vulture.

More gorgeous mountains. This one has a nice crinkly ridge that is probably very hard to traverse.

To end the delights, our host searched the area until they found this…the SS Relief.
It’s a floating toilet.

With this view, our life was complete, and we set off back to the boat ramp where our driver made a perfect landing and earned kudos both from us and the other people on the boat ramp. :)

Best thing I like about the pics is the green choppy water. I can almost feel the water as you put your hand in, especially in the third picture from bottom..

Ling–it was pretty awesome. On the surface it was quite warm, but if you stuck your leg over the side…brrrrr!
