  1. My Blue Peter congratulatory letter.

  2. The original box for my laptop, complete with ID numbers.

  3. My childhood swimming certificates: over 30 years old, some of them.

  4. The map of the fantasy world from my novel.

  5. A print-out of the first email Don and I ever exchanged.

  6. My hand-crafted walking stick.

  7. A sales pack for advertising at Sturgis.

  8. A pin from a family trip to Krnski Jezero (black lake) which instantly brings back memories.

  9. About ten million socks. (No pairs, of course.)

  10. A second Edwin Wisewings talking plush bald eagle.

  11. A leather bookmark from Tewkesbury.

  12. A book I borrowed from Shendoah some while ago (oops).

  13. A brochure of Irish historic properties.

I kid you not, this has happened to me twice. When I moved from New Orleans to Maine, I went through all of my socks and got rid of the unmatched ones. When I arrived I had a bunch of unmatched socks. When I moved from my apartment into my house, I went through all of my socks and got rid of the unmatched ones. When I unpacked, I had a bunch of unmatched socks.

It’s a complete mystery to me how it happens. It’s a bizarre phenomenon.

There’s something both universally wonderful AND scary about finally doing big clean-ups and organizations for moves… One move, many years B.S. (before Sue… my wife…) a girlfriend who I was moving in with located a box I’d long forgotten about… with letters and poems written by me to another girlfriend years before I met the young lady who found them…

That was NOT pretty… and was a year’s worth of torment to me…

Between the disastrous breakup of that relationship until I met Sue, a shredder and loads of often-used garbage bags became my best friends! :)

Sounds like your finds are MUCH happier! :)

Thanks for the Blue Peter question, Nicholas, I was about to ask the same thing.

    J. Lynne - LOL!! The same thing has happened to me! I’ve stopped questioning it and chalked it up to a rip in the space-time continuum.

Linda - I actually love moving… and I like finding things I totally forgot I had (and things I wonder why I’ve kept).
