Tonopah, and the one that got away

Filed in Nevada 2006

The area around Tonopah is sparsely populated with few facilities. Below is the road for Silver Peak, the one that got away–I really wanted to visit, but it was a 40 mile round trip and I didn’t have enough gas. I would have gone if I’d gassed up at Mina, but I arrived before it opened–before 7 am.

It took several shots for me to realise that I could stand in the middle of the road and nobody, absolutely nobody, would come to run me over.

Tonopah is the largest town for miles. I expect to be staying there at some point later in my trip. But this large poster on one of the historic buildings gave me a giggle. Apparently one is given two free queens with every motel room. (”2 queens in each room.”) Woo-hoo!
