Thursday Thirteen: #5 — 13 things about Blogathon 2007

Thirteen Things about Blogathon 2007

  1. Blogathon started in 2001 with one person. I think this year there will be 500+ participants.
  2. I decided to do it because it was intriguingly crazy.
  3. I mean–seriously–why would I post a post every half hour for 24 hours, risking sleep deprivation, cat interference, and bad typos?
  4. To raise money for a good cause, of course.
  5. I’ve been a sponsor at Christian Children’s Fund for about seven years.
  6. I sponsor four children: Yaimi in Mexico; Ditaya in Zambia; Felipe in Brazil and Sherman in Dominica.
  7. I like CCF because they do not require that either beneficiaries or sponsors follow a particular belief system.
  8. They are efficient, and use only 20% of their funds on administration. (They are a pretty big operation.)
  9. The money raised by monthly sponsorships is pooled into a particular community, allowing for improvements such as clean water, education, and health care facilities.
  10. You can still send gifts directly to your child, and are encouraged to write letters. They are translated for you and it is wonderful to have this one on one contact.
  11. Now, back to me. It sounded like a fun challenge, and it might be the only time when I can do something like this. Carpe diem!
  12. Some of my friends did it last year, and survived. I guess I can too.
  13. I’m really looking forward to the community aspects of it–meeting other blogathonners and having my friends stop by. I hope that you will, too.

I would definitely like to participate in a Blogathon as I’m really good at all-nighters…it’s the tracking down sponsors part I don’t quite understand.

What a nice thing for you to do.

Great list. I really wish I could do this, sounds like a fun challenge. Unfortunately, I have things that I can’t get out of during the schedule, and the B-schedule doesn’t help either. Possibly next year then…

You surely have a good heart. Those lists are sure something to be proud of.
    Mine is up too.

Good luck. I don’t think I’d be able to attempt something like that until my kids are older. I certainly couldn’t do it this year with my oldest graduating preschool and the in-laws coming to celebrate. Happy TT.

Hey friend! I apparently have some email issues as I just got your notes this morning. I AM getting your mail, but sometimes the roadrunner mail comes in slow because well, i’ll explain that in a private email. :-) I am soooooo excited you are doing the blogathon! As soon as you have your details, i’ll post something on my blog. Of course, I’ll be supporting you 100% too. YIPPEEEE!!!

P.S. Thank you for the nice comments on my blog. They meant a lot to me.
