The revamp

Filed in Geekiness

Sunrise

I find it soothing once in a while to dive headlong into a creative project, even when I have other things to do. When I saw the Gridlines theme it was round about the same time that I realized the current theme I was using was all over the place. I would see the same theme two, three or more times a day just in an hour’s surfing. It’s a lovely theme, and that’s why, but I wanted something a bit more unique.

I already miss having all the time in the world to do this kind of thing, but for all that, I appreciate what I can do. I got a fair amount done on my backlog at Markeroni, too. Now that I’m not entirely exhausted when I get back from work–how quickly our muscles warm up!–I can still do an hour or so then, as well.

Customizing a theme is kind of fun. Each element must be figured out from the CSS. One day, I will even finish my book about CSS so that I understand what I’m looking at. For now, the trick is to save each working copy so that if I mess things up with a single keystroke I can at least fix it back with a single keystroke.

Anyway, that’s what I was doing, and why. I hope you like the new theme. I’m more or less done fiddling with it, now, except to start adding the random header images. From here on in I should be able to concentrate on the actual writing.

I like this layout! Is nice to not have to scroll so much to make sure I’m not missing anything fantabulous.

I’m doing what I can to chip away at the transcriptions and links, but it gets away from me sometimes.

Looks great! I’m getting ready to start doing the same thing, but this is all new to me so I’m looking for pre-made themes where I don’t have to do too much myself.

Thanks Marina! The transcriptions/links are not the worst of it so don’t worry too much–it all helps no matter when. :)

Having three days straight off will also be good for my backlog. :)

Lynne: This too was a pre-made theme, but I wanted to fiddle with it significantly as the original was rather dull and monochrome.
