The Lodi Street Faire

On a hot early summer’s day back in May I wandered down to Lodi and took a wander through the street faire. An annual event, this, hundreds of booths selling arts and crafts turned the downtown area into an almost unrecognizable mass of color and humanity.

These silvery wind chimes hung off old teapots and made a tinkerbell sound in the air (until one fell off–a lady shrieked in surprise).

Hundreds of people were in attendance.

I liked this collection of “filigree” ironwork.

This isn’t what I’d expect in Lodi–a double stand full of Australian hats!

The shaved ice stand was remarkably popular. ;)

All sorts of goodies were on sale in two main food streets. The smell of Lockeford sausage (which is really good) mingled with french fried potatoes and popcorn…yummy yummy. But I’d already eaten, so I just enjoyed from afar.

This lady was making wacky spiral-cut fries. I tiptoed behind the scenes and got this shot with my zoom. It was fascinating! She crammed the spud in a special device, whirr whirr whirr, and there was this perfect spiral of spud to be fried. :)

I captured Snow White wandering up from the Lodi Arch…she had a sweet smile for everyone.

This one wins the prize for the tackiest item that I found for sale.

I dropped in on some Book Crossing friends who were selling hand-decorated canvas sacks and survival kits for developmentally disabled people. They’re good bags! This was my sole purchase–signed by author, even. :)

I amused myself with some silly signs, too. “Motorhome Sweet Motorhome” was tempting, but not at $16.

And on the way out I grabbed a business card from this couple, who make quilts and other goodies out of old jeans. We have a lot of old jeans. ;)
(Though it does occur to me that I could just learn how to quilt and make my own blanket. ;)

If you have a lotta blankets and you know how to quilt or whatever, you could make them into jeans and put up a store next to Terry - ‘Recycling Old Blankets Into Cool Jeans’. That would make old Terry weep for sure. :)
