In one of the seedier areas of Stockton, there’s a slightly derelict, wonderful old church. Outside its walls are set a pair of hearts made from shaded gravel. They are incongruous…and somehow cheering.

    It does look cute. Somebody went to a lot of trouble to get it just right. The white gravel in the middle of the heart looks like confetti.
