Rust

Filed in Blog, Daily Photo
North of the channel

North of the Stockton channel, which connects with the Sacramento River, the area is industrial and run-down. We went here looking for a historic landmark but didn’t have much luck. On the other hand, there were some interesting old rusty buildings to photograph, so that was fun.

Actually there’s a lot of history in the area. PBS just did a special on the Tong gang/unions and a union hall that looks very similar to this rusty old place. You’d be surprised at the stuff that turns up in these little towns!

Check for the PBS show - it’s in HD and pretty cool. I think it’s History’s Detectives or something, an episode that ran around the 4th of July week or so.

OK here’s a link to the episode… It was in Isleton, not too far away from where you took this photo (I think)

    Pretty cool huh?!?

Ooh, way cool! I can’t watch the video–I seem to have video deficiency–but it’s neat to hear stories about the place. I’m fond of old rusty “urban decay” in the first place and to hear about its history is even more fun.

    Thanks for visiting. :)
