Snow would be warmerDecember 11, 2009 06:13

It’s been intensely cold the last few days, but the really-cold snap seems to have broken. And even if it hasn’t, we now have weaponry against Jack Frost: brick-red, fleece, electric-equipped weaponry.

I’m sitting here in my jim-jams and it’s a couple of degrees below freezing. And why am I not grumbling? Well, two reasons, really. First, yesterday Amazon delivered two electric throws. I am currently bundled up in one of them while Don and the cats are bundled up in the other. Second, I just had my first mince pie of the season, and milk, and I feel like Santa Claus. ;)

Third, it’s not 10°F/-12°C, which it was the last couple of nights.

We’ve just gone through the coldest few nights I’ve ever experienced. You wake up in the morning and the world is crystal clear, with thick frost clinging to every blade of grass and pine needle. It’s incredibly beautiful, of course, but also intensely and bitterly cold. Harvey the RV is not equipped for this level of freeze, and neither are my toes.

This morning, as I type at ridiculous-o-clock pre-dawn, a large body of rain is coming which I hope will not turn into snow. I’m not quite ready for snow. Though to be honest, an insulating layer of the white stuff would probably be warmer than what we’ve been experiencing lately. ;)
