Skin explosion
Filed in BlogI’m sitting here rubbing ointment into my hands. This physical labor stuff is…interesting. I’ve had a huge breakout, for a start. My cuticles are dried out, leaving strips of dead skin (they’re only dead until you pull them off, of course, and then they hurt). And there are dings and bruises all over my body.
Wow.
This is proof positive that diet and water make a huge difference. That’s a no-brainer of course, but still–sometimes it’s good to see the results. My coworkers bring cookies and other sugary things to work, to share. I have been partaking, because there is something almost irresistible about sharing food as a group–it’s probably primeval. (Either that, or it’s the Doughnut Factor.) While I have also been bringing my own lunch in my cute little $3 lunch box, I know I’m not getting close to enough water. I would always drink at least half a gallon a day and often more. That’s been replaced by an ice cold soda when I get home, and not enough water during the day.
The energy has to come from somewhere. Unfortunately, I’m not much of a fruit fan. I’m more inclined towards Brussels sprouts and broccoli, which aren’t really snack foods (I don’t eat them raw unless slathered in dressing, which is counterproductive). But I guess I’m going to have to start bringing fruit in so that I can snack on that instead. And I’m going to have to start saying no to the cookies and cakes.
Bummer.

I’m not much of a fruit eater either but Harriet is forcing me to eat more. She loves fruit and she and I eat together. So I eat what she eats. My best advice is to keep trying different kinds of fruit. Only buy one or two of each type so you don’t feel committed to something you might not like. Then as you find things you do like, buy more of those. I’ve also found that fruit is more palatable to me if I cut it up rather than trying bite into it.

Neat! I do like apples, bananas and pineapples, oh and pears: it’s that my fruit-liking stops around there. I think a lot of it has to do with texture. I just don’t like soft fruits. I have a nice big pineapple waiting for my weeks’ snacks.
