Setting boundaries

These land survey signs are everywhere in the forest, dotted between the trees. It’s sometimes hard to see where the private and the public lands diverge, but these are part of the system. They are set there as pointers in land surveys to determine just that.

We put metal posts in the ground to mark boundary lines. Trees seem temporary - they might die, or be cut down for timber.

Next time you take a picture like that, remember to take along a marker and draw a face on the notice before you take the picture.

Nancy–I think it’s more of a land survey to keep an eye on moving boundaries…most of the landowners have fences up around the bits they care about.
