The 101 freeway coming up to SFO was packed. Don took pity on me and gave me a ride. Strapped my 25 lbs of luggage on back and I took my laptop messenger bag style. The new security measures are much in evidence, but I love SFO for its courteous, friendly security staff. You now have to fill out an additional document with contact info, seating info, etc. though nobody has taken it from me yet.

I’m enjoying an expensive pastry and reasonably priced coffee in one of the various cafes up here. The first table I tried wobbled my coffee right over and even hit my laptop. I moved it quick and since it’s not shouting at me I guess I didn’t do any harm.

Can’t seem to get wireless here, though I could before when I was here. Maybe at the gate. If not, you’ll get this message when I eventually get online. Could be days.

I have the jitters. Part of it is tiredness, part excitement, part the kind of wistfulness that comes from being an International Traveller. I can’t explain it other than that something has changed, something inside. On the one hand I wish I were back home in bed, on the other, I look forward to the new adventures, whatever they all may be. But I’ve flipped past the point where I’m ever going to be “normal”, and sometimes normal is a nice place to be: simple, comfortable. But not possible with such itchy, itchy feet.

It’s foggy; you can just barely see across to the South San Francisco letters marked on the hillside above the airport. Still, it’s already lifting.

Ah well, enough for now. I’ll save my battery for the trip. Was hoping to pick up a copy of “Coffee, Tea or Me” in the bookstore, but all they’re selling is hardback bestsellers and a lot of mystery books — Evanovich, Grafton.
