Santa Fe Part 1 - Travelling there
Filed in Landmark-Hunting, Motorcycle Road Trips, Raven's Roads 2005We sent off in the late morning and took highway 14, which is the Turquoise Trail, as I understand it where the turquoise is all gathered. Later I discovered that I had my camera set to the smallest resolution, which means that some very good photographs are essentially useless for anything other than online display :: annoyed with self ::
First we went through Madrid, which is a funky little artist’s town with buildings ranging from shacks to nice little converted miners’ cottages (it was an open cast mining area). Then we went through Cerrillos(*). The terrain was scrubby desert (*).
The town itself was a *real* old west location, with aged buildings and a sleepy sense that was quite lovely. I’m sure it has more than its share of tourism, but this is still the off season.
It also has a petting zoo with the biggest llama I’ve ever seen. (*) For $2 you can feed the animals, at least if the place were open.
At one stage Cerrillos was being considered as the capital of the state.
There was also a big old cottonwood tree (*)
After that there isn’t much of anything except great scenery until you get to the outskirts of Sanna Fay. ;-)
