The red brick saloon

Red brick saloon

As I left San Andreas, I noticed the old “Red Brick Saloon”–complete with red bricks. Bricks are unusual enough in the Bay Area that when I see them it’s quite the novelty (I guess they either didn’t have earthquakes out here, or they didn’t know to build for earthquakes.) Either way, it’s a neat place with vines and…well, red bricks. ;)

No red bricks? Wow. Around here there are entire streets filled with nothing but red brick houses. Such a different world we live in. :)

I’ve heard that people living on top of fault lines like the San Andreas are fatalistic. Besides, Red Brick Saloon looks like its been through more than one earthquake, and still standing. Owner probably thinks that after what’s it’s already been thru, nothing’s gonna bring it down anyways…

Oh! Sorry. It’s all Alistair McLean’s fault. Used to read all his books when I was a kid, and this one thriller he wrote called San Andreas made a big impression on me. Never quite got it out of my head… :)

Cool! For my part, I always chuckle when I see British place names in the USA…especially when I’ve been to the original.
