25/48 Woo-hoo! Half-way there!
Filed in Blogathon 2007To celebrate, let’s talk about public libraries.
Let’s face it, libraries are cool. They can take you anywhere in the world, out of the world, and to places that never existed. And you get free books! Every so often I go to the local library and just forget that they are full of books. I know that sounds nuts, but it hits me with a fresh wave of enthusiasm that I can just pick up an armful of books and take them home, saving me hundreds of dollars and filling my mind with ideas and inspiration.
Sometimes it’s just too much!
Today, during the Blogathon, I am reading a little book called Blog Wild!. It’s the book of a seminar and is in note form, meaning lots of little bite-sized chunks that can be read between posts. It’s pretty cool. I’m enjoying it.
I met Narnia through a library. My love of dragons was well-known and on a school excursion to the library, someone found a book with a dragon on the cover. I read The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and then the rest, and I still have my childhood copies, read over and over again.
My love of reading was born in libraries. From reading, I became a writer, a blogger, an author. I even had a place to do a Master’s of Librarianship once. I didn’t get funding and couldn’t go, but that’s okay. Paths tend to lead you to the right place, sooner or later.
Yet I still have an inner librarian. She gets a workout at Markeroni, classifying obscure landmarks. I know that she was born in the public libraries of this world.

Halfway done Linda!!!!
I think I’m going to start baking some cookies to celebrate.
I love the library. When I was a little girl, I like to play “Library” with my brother. I was fascinated with Abraham Lincoln so I named our ‘Library’ — the Lincoln Library and my old books have that written in the front of them still to this day. My kids laugh at it.

I think it’s really cool that you’re doing this blog-a-thon and I just had to give you a little cheer. Good show!

I rediscovered libraries several years ago. It was like .. Whoa, why am I giving Barnes and Noble all my money! In recent years I started checking out new books from the library and buying only those books I’ve read and enjoyed. My shelves fill up slower now, but pretty much everything going up there is a keeper now. Works out really well.
Nice post.

Polli: I used to play libraries too–what fun! They used to have those folders in front where the ticket lived, do you remember?
Marie: Thank you so much for visiting :)
Bob: Exactly! I’ve been downsizing my whole house because we’re losing our home and possibly going to live in an RV. So many books had to go. I kept only the very special ones.

I love libraries too. I’ve currently “rediscovered” my local library not for the books but for the music. Tons of free music to expand my horizons.
When I was a graduate student I had the pleasure of working for a library. It was basically a data entry job for the archivists but it was a blast!

I would so work for a library again if not for the office politics and the customer service aspect. I reminded a friend of mine that it isn’t much different than grocery-cashiering. I’d probably be better off owning a small cozy bookstore… but that won’t happen for a while yet.
Nowdays, I mostly use mine to take Anthony to storytime, and get him the occasional video.
