My life in motels

Filed in Blog

Since the 4th of October, we have been living in motels and trying to deal with a job in the Bay Area and going to Stockton to deal with our stuff. Nothing of any great significance has happened on the surface, though some deep changes have been going on inside. Because I was not scheduled a weekend after that initial move (two consecutive days off), and because the move took so long, we needed to bring our cats from Barb’s home on that first weekend, and since Speedy didn’t like other cats we had to keep trading places between the bathroom and the main room, not to mention sneaking them in in the first place.

It got a bit easier for us when we stopped having to find wireless and just set up on dialup. Sure it’s slow, but it makes researching and working and keeping in touch simpler. It shines a flashlight into the dark of isolation.

Eventually I decided to stop fighting and go with the flow. Much as I loved my job, its role as an anchor, and my co-workers, keeping the job would ultimately make moving on much harder. My life was in Stockton now–my stuff needed sorting out, and only then could we decide where to go and what to do. On the knife-edge of choice, I could make two paths: continue to work at the store, living in a cheap apartment offered by a co-worker. This path was solid and safe. Or I could choose a leap of faith, do something unconventional, and follow a path leading into the unknown.

I’m good at those leaps of faith. I quit my job on Monday, not without sadness and regret, and we closed escrow the same day. We are now officially homeless, and while I had looked upon that state with dread in the past, now that I’m here it’s actually sort of okay.

Everything happens for a reason, sometimes you just need to wait for your reason! I am sure it is all going to work out great. Leaps of faith often end with the best landings. :-) Hugs!

I’m not sure that everything happens for a reason, unless it’s to annoy you or to let you know that sometimes the only reason it happens is that shit happens. ;)

Btw, all your comments end up in the spam filter by Akismet. It might be worth contacting Akismet to ask them why that is. Maybe someone mistakenly marked you as a spammer some time. I like your comments!
