Looking down the road
Filed in Blog, Daily Photo
Here’s a view of the dirt road, facing down towards where we’re going. It pretty much cuts over the top of a small mountain, and then goes down the other side. The surface is so-so reasonable, except when heavy plant vehicles are tearing it up.

Just looking at the vegetation makes it clear why that area burns so readily. Manzanita can actually burst into flames when fire comes near it without touching. The ecosystem there is healthiest with regular fire, as devastating as it can be.

Yup. I always get the idea that mother nature does whatever she darn well please, and if we’re in the way, then we’d better adapt. The more folk live up in these wild places, though, the more often she shrugs her shoulders.
