Let's get this show on the road
Filed in BX Convention 2007It was an early start, and the sun was just rising as we taxied out to the runway. Watched and waited as the planes flicked into the sky, one at a time, taking their passengers to whatever adventures came next.

The flight took us over San Francisco and the Golden Gate. Eventually we landed in Chicago, and about an hour later and one more takeoff it was the little hop to Charleston. There, I met with jessibud, a BookCrosser I’;d met in Toronto last year. I wore my Toronto t-shirt specially so we could be sure to recognize one another. As it turns out, this airport is dimensionally about the same as Inverness–i.e. dinky–so that was no problem.
The carrousel stuck. A guy had to climb up there and unblock it manually. I felt sorry for him as I had 47 lbs of luggage. (At SFO, the lady handling it kind of winced and asked what was inside. I told her about the book lovers' convention.)
We got a minivan down to the convention hotel where I unloaded my books into jessibud’s room, packed my hostel bag, and immediately bumped into all manner of different Book Crossers, including Buffra who kindly offered to give me a ride down to the hostel to check in before I ended up helping celebrate her birthday while meeting other BXers and eating yummy pasta and having fun. It was lovely to be able to spend time with both.
Afterwards, I wandered into the bar and was immediately crushed to within an inch of wonderful, welcoming death by Book Crossing hugs. In fact it was like a pinball machine as I bounced from hug to hug. Had a couple of drinks, stayed up late, waited outside in the pouring rain and watched the lightning for a taxi to arrive.
