Like I said last Sunday, I’ve been “accused” of having an interesting life. ;-)

Every time I mention this to my husband he sort of chuckles and says, “You mean, like ‘may you live in interesting times?’” There’s an element of that, too.

But I’ve led a boring life, too. I’ve been rigid-minded and stiff and formal and ultimately, not happy. The more interesting me was always around, of course (how could she not be?)–poking through the formality and the need to please, was there when I wore shorts and a huge cartoon t-shirt and a ridiculously large baseball cap, or dressed up as a vampire for school, or wielded plastic swords in Lancaster town centre, or any of a myriad other things that were so fun that they left me surfing on a wave of euphoria.

Whenever I’ve let go of control, whenever I’ve just let things flow–those have been the happiest, the headiest, times, for me. The older I get, the more I notice this, and the more I do it. I’ve learned to recognize the signs, and get out my surfboard, because in every life there are dozens of hands trying to drag you down to mundanity. And why should we be mundane? That’s not what we were born to do. As humans, we were born to shine.

So I guess what I want to talk about is having an interesting life. Maybe I’ll talk about some of those times when I’ve life-surfed, and when I haven’t surfed, and what I’ve learned. I’ll also write about some of the interesting things I’ve done, or that one might do to alleviate life boredom; how to make ordinary things interesting, and how to do something interesting every day. Because that is what I am trying to do, these days: I’m trying to consciously reach out and do something interesting every day, not because I have something to prove, but because life slips by so quickly and I don’t want to wish I had done this or hadn’t done that. I’ve spent way too much time kicking myself for opportunities missed.

But I am not going to schedule a specific time or place for these posts; I’m not going to make a big deal out of them; I’m just going to see how it goes. Writing about this is an idea that is poking at me and I usually listen to those little nagging points until they find a way to voice themselves. You’ll know them by their category, and they’ll come along when it’s time. I’m writing this because I intend to do it, but I still have no clue how I’m going to end up doing it.

And then, maybe you’ll find it interesting. ;-)
