Hostels
Filed in BX Convention 2007Having just established that today is Saturday, and being able to borrow skyring's laptop, I can finally make a post.
The hostel didn't really work out. The situation was bizarre from the beginning when they housed me in a tiny room with bunk beds and my roomie was male. Felt no threat, let Don know what was going on, and in the end we didn't even see each other 'cause he was asleep when I got in. But he also had the radio running and I can't sleep, so I had to clamber down the ladder and turn the thing off. He was actually living there in exchange for artwork which is also weird.
But then…last night, after the festivities had ended and I got my cab back, I let myself in and surprised one male, one female, both butt naked; um, having fun. After a while I knocked. Allegedly, he'd been told I was moving to a different room. This was news to me. Both were drunk. I'm not terribly sure who was the most embarrassed. So that was about it; solittletime had offered to let me sleep in her room as she had two beds, and I left after stuffing my stuff into my backpack, which promptly split. So, since yellow cab wasn't bothering to answer its phones, I walked to the hotel, which was close and safe enough. Putting on my best don't-mess-with-me vibe. Carrying a split Hello Kitty backpack in my arms. Yeah, tough. I have the best adventures.
The hostel was okay, friendly enough, but I was never told about the co-ed thing and it seemed more like a commune or at best a clique. The same night a bunch of loud studenty kids checked in. I'd slept little enough the previous night. And, the floor in the bathroom was nasty-dirty.
So, not a great experience. I've upgraded. I hung out in the bar awhile to unwind, and can honestly say that I had an experience that nobody else at the convention has had. And best of all, I don't have to climb ladders to go to bed.
