Fiddle with a meme

Memes of varying quality circulate the internet. I like the ones where a little thought or effort is required, or where I can fiddle with the rules. Some of them I do just for grins, but I tend not to post many here because they don’t usually fit in too well with the theme of this site (the travels, writing and musings of a female motorcycling author).

It’s nice, comforting even, to belong to a club, whether it’s just a bunch of people doing the same online game or something more real-life and physical. I like that as much as the next person, but I also like to put my own slant on things. When I was tagged, twice, to do the “birthday meme” I wasn’t sure whether it would fit into my blog as is, so I sat on it for a while. Eventually, I figured out a way I could make this work for Raven’s Roads: by writing a mini-essay for each section of the meme, over a period of days. In this way I stay true to the general idea, but do it my way.

Therefore, thank you Redhead Rants and Ordinary Folk for tagging me in this meme, and in the next few posts I’m going to actually start it. You can expect the first of seven posts in a short while.

Suggestion: take a regular old meme and change the rules to suit yourself. Memes are not carved in rock, and they can evolve like anything else. Not only will you have more fun using your fine mind to make it different, you will have more fun writing it, too.)

And just when did it become fashionable to pick up a meme and then TAG other blogs (like I’m really going to post anything because you told me to…yeah, that’s MY attitude! LOL). Really, aren’t blogs supposed to be a little corner of the world for my thoughts? If I wanted to play tag I’d be out on the playground….or is that what the internet has become? I’m confused!

I think it’s been that way with blogs since the beginning. I don’t mind being tagged, but I might have to think about how it fits and what I want to do with it.

The internet has always been my playground *grin*
