Apparently, the houses are built this way in a last-ditch attempt
to allow for some cooling in the excrutiating summer months.

Earthquake bolt. After the 19th century earthquake, many buildings had
to be bolted back together again in a miracle of engineering.

A common sight in Charleston: Italian ice. It started with one guy and one
cart, and now they're up to about 100 (or was it a thousand?)

Italian ice, cherry flavor. Yummy!
