High
Filed in Motorcycle Road Trips, Raven's Roads 2005I went up a mountain today. My friends drove me to an altitude of nearly 11,000′ where I stood in the snow and marvelled at the incredible vista around me. The view stretches for about a hundred miles and you get a real sense of the variety of landscapes in the state - low desert, high desert, alpine. We looked down on the city of Albuquerque and went “wow”.
I sunk into a snowdrift and lost my shoe. ;-)
Absolutely amazing. I stood and watched three ravens circling and playing together, never coming close to colliding.
I now have a small, plush crow - they had no ravens anywhere - I guess ravens do not like to be captured.
Over the weekend, we’re heading east to the Roswell area. We’ll probably camp, and may be away two nights. It’s car camping, so we get the comforts of home.
Then I will get into organise and pack mode, and I should be leaving sometime about Wednesday. I am not going to rush coming home and will probably take about a week and a half, stretching my trip out for another week. If I get more homesick, I’ll take more freeway. I have pretty much figured out where I want to go on the way home.
This gets me back sometime in early May.
Yesterday I wrote from dawn until dusk, then I discovered tasty fruit juice and Canadian cocktails and I wrote no more. I cooked a kind of cumberland/shepherd’s pie hybrid, and it went down very well.
Tonight I am treating my friends to fondue, for all they have done for me. We are not going to the music festival, though we will probably catch bits of it tonight; we’d rather go to Roswell, and I can’t stay here forever.
