Grand Canyon - the very short version
Filed in Motorcycle Road Trips, Raven's Roads 2005Hi guys,
I am really, really tired. Motorcycle camping really does not agree with me, and I got maybe four hours of sleep last night, in two separate sessions. I’m glad that it worked out this way, because I did not plan or need to be riding today, and instead thoroughly enjoyed my tour of the Grand Canyon. Visibility was exceptional, over 130 miles, and it is hands-down the most stunning, beautiful, amazing place I have ever been to.
I can explain why I was amused last night: I was emailing you from a tent! Camping just isn’t the same as it used to be. ;-)
I switched to a little (heated with electrickery) cabin overnight, and should get more sleep before I set out tomorrow. I plan to ride on I-40 about 200-250 miles, depending on how it feels. There is an advisory for strong winds in the Albuquerque region tomorrow afternoon, and I want the option of being able to get off the road and into a motel or KOA if it gets to be too much. I have a better chance of that on the freeway, though I am disappointed that I won’t get to see Pie Town or the VLA this time around (Very Large Array). But then, maybe I will get to do that on the return journey. This whole trip has been very much played by ear, and that isn’t a bad thing overall.
I think I’m going to call my book “First Time” or something like that.
I’ll write up full details tomorrow night - whether or not I can get online remains to be seen. I will phone-post if not, so at least you know I arrived.
It’s nearly 10 pm, I’m going to brave the cold to do bathroom, and then will back up my photographs, and sleeeeeeeep.
I should cross into New Mexico tomorrow.
