Disgust

Filed in Motorcycle Road Trips, Raven's Roads 2005

I’m getting to a point where I just want to give up in disgust.

Right now I’m in a motel in Wilmslow, Arizona, essentially stuck. I’ve ridden a grand total of 95 miles. The winds are so strong that I am fighting the entire way, and being blown across the lane. Sooner or later I’ll get blown into the path of someone else.

Between Flagstaff and here is a kind of desert/moorland that is as bleak and ugly as anything, and the wind is tearing across it and there’s nothing in the way to break the motion. I asked at the gas station and they said it would essentially get worse as I go further east, and the weather forecasts confirm that. I can’t go forward and I can’t go back. Just too damn dangerous and it’s freaking me out. Not a happy camper right now!!!

I’ve looked into bike shipping, but it’s way too pricey. $500 plus just to get me to Roswell, with no guarantee I would be able to continue from there. I could probably find somewhere to store the bike and continue on public transportation. I just don’t know, yet.

I need something to eat. I’m also exploring my options. At least you know I am safe for tonight. Stupid **** weather.
