Critters

Filed in Nevada 2006

I went to Rancho San Rafael today. It’s a county park just off the freeway, and I went there because there’s a labyrinth that I wanted to walk. But there’s also other stuff, and I went to the museum. I’ll get to a review of that in due course.

I happened on a 6 week exhibit of wolves and a big cat. I will look up the type of cat another time. The female adult was 12 years old, and the cub was 8 weeks ago. They were American gray and I believe Arctic wolves respectively. The adult was fostering the baby, but I never got to why.

Anyway, I ended up chatting with the handler. For hours. And hours. And while everyone who swung by got to pet the cat, which was 6 months old and weighed 21 lbs, and behaved like my cat JR — sticking his chin out for more scritchies — not everyone got to pet the wolf.

I couldn’t pet the baby because of some developmental stuff he needed to do, but I did get to get a brief closer look — he was a bit of a wigglebottom.

So, like I said, I just get the most awesome adventures. :-)
