Filed in Britain 2005 (1), TravelI woke up four and a half hours later, and stumbled around getting ready. We were out of the door around seven thirty, and wandered through traffic jams and early morning commuter foo to Luton Airport. Got very flustered in the general chaos of lifting out bags and trying to not get run over by a bus.
Check-in was very easy and I wandered through security and into the departure lounge. I couldn’t get a wireless connection in there (humph!) and so sat there with my Live Journal and offline workings. I didn’t have to wait long for the plane and to my absolute astonishment managed to get a window seat.
The flight is very short, only a bit longer than an hour. I enjoyed the takeoff, we got above a solid bank of clouds, and then I fell asleep. I woke up above the clouds in time for the descent. Then I walked across the lot and noticed my Mam and then a small critter and to my astonishment was met by my parents, Ian, Anne, and Lauren.
Twenty minutes later, with much commentary from Lauren (age 4 ;-) when the bags didn’t arrive immediately, covered in ladybugs(*) we headed to the Snow Goose, a local pub, for lunch.
(*) I stuck ladybug (ladybird) stickers on my luggage to make it easy to find on the carrousel. It worked.)
The guy who took the order got mine wrong, but I liked what I got instead. We spent a bit of time catching up and laughing and I got an immense kick out of my family’s immediately noticing that I was Dressed Up All Posh…and had lost weight since the last time I saw them. It’s been a good decade or so since I wore heels anywhere in public. ;-)
Then we went back to Culbokie, and it seems I only left it about five minutes ago; I unpacked, did email, handed out pressies, and now I am in Scotland. :-)
