Christmas budgeting

Filed in Blog

I don’t do a big Christmas. No matter what I buy for my family, the postage to the UK is always more than the gifts costs, and that always cramps my style. I tend to pick out a variety of fun, lightweight items and send them over, “care package” style, and arrange for my parents to buy something more substantial over there.

My friends and I have long since agreed not to do gifts, and I have the same arrangement with my brother and SIL–we just give the kids a happy Christmas.

Unlike some, then, I don’t really need to do a great deal of advance planning. With just the two of us, we don’t go all-out, though this year I’m somewhat eyeing up Christmas puddings from the British Shop and Christmas crackers. ;)

Don and I usually agree on a few “main gifts” and then take a $20 bill to a dollar store to see what kinds of ridiculous tat we can buy for each other. Living in an RV, though, that is most likely going to have to be curtailed. I’d rather have a new (or fixed) camera and a mini vaccuum cleaner. ;)
