White Raven Award: D-Cubed

Filed in White Raven Award

White Raven AwardIt was pretty much this post which convinced me that J. Lynne of D-Cubed (Displaced. Dysfunctional. Discombobulated) was going to be getting a White Raven Award. (more…)

White Raven Award: The World according to Ollie

Filed in White Raven Award

WhiteRaven AwardThis website was nominated by Phelan of A Homesteading Neophyte.

Ollie’s World is changing. She’s been living in New York; now she’s taking steps to start a new life in North Carolina. To keep herself sane, she stitches. Her day-in-the-life posts are intermingled with photographs of the many different craft projects that she works on, as well as the pets that she so obviously loves. (more…)

White Raven Award: A Homesteading Neophyte

Filed in White Raven Award

The White Raven AwardThe latest White Raven Award goes to Phelan of A Homesteading Neophyte.

Out of necessity, Phelan and her husband, both bikers, started homesteading from their small farm in Kansas. Since May 2006, she has been blogging about it. They are the only biker-homesteaders that I know.

At times hilariously funny, at others heart-warming, this gem of a blog oozes with personality (I can just hear Phelan going “Ewww” at the “ooze” bit–on the other hand, she slaughters her own chickens and is raising boys, so perhaps not.) There are no holds barred on this blog; she has strong opinions and is not afraid to voice them, nor is she afraid to talk about her failures and, well, things that the modern world skims over as “gross.” This blog is the tale of a woman who is trying to make it in one of the hardest ways possible–as a small farmer in a big-farmer world.

I really hope you will go over to A Homesteading Neophyte and see what I mean.

White Raven Award: Pink Internet Marketing

Filed in Blog, White Raven Award

White Raven Award: Pink Internet MarketingDanielle started her blog back in July with the stated goal of making money from it, but this is not the kind of marketing you’re used to.

For a start, Pink Internet Marketing is, well… pink. Because it is pink, your eyes don’t automatically glaze over with boredom at Yet Another Internet Marketing Site. And besides, the author rides a scooter. (It is not pink. It is red and white.)

Pink Internet Marketing was nominated by Christine but I already had her in mind for a white raven as well. ;)

While Danielle’s blog is new, it doesn’t seem like it at all. She’s obviously an experienced writer and there is usually at least one post per day. She uses the blog for general blogginess and shares every step of the process of making money online. For some reason I’ve been dinking around in a lot of MMO type sites lately (grin) and very few of them are this open or honest. None are this much fun.

What makes Pink Internet Marketing so exceptional, though, is Danielle’s willingness to share and share alike–to post reviews, links, and mentions in order to help other bloggers get a leg up. All this is done with a friendly attitude, a sense of humor, and a voracious-looking teddy bear. She even finds time to party) and holds down a day job.

I don’t know how she does it all, but I do know she deserves a White Raven Award.

White Raven Award: Polliwog’s Pond

Filed in Blog, White Raven Award

White Raven AwardThe first ever White Raven Award goes to Polli of Polliwog’s Pond.

I’ve been aware of blogs-outside-LJ for a long time, but I can honestly say that it was Polli who somehow planted the hook that drew me in. On a personal level, I’m rather happy about that.

But there’s just something about Polli. On the face of it, she lives an ordinary life–raising her six kids on a small island. And yet you quickly notice that there’s nothing ordinary about her. You read, and realize that she’s extraordinarily generous. She gives people a virtual leg up when needed. She hands out awards with obvious pleasure. She is just a person who loves to give.

Polli is adept at finding neat stuff to share, and sets down her own thoughts when the mood takes her. She takes part in bunches of activities–I don’t know how she makes the time, but was truly glad for her company during the blogathon a few weeks back. It takes a special kind of person to stay up for 24 hours poking people you’ve never met “irl”. :)

In a nutshell, Polli is a sweetheart, a truly supportive person, and her blog is So. Very. Pretty.

I am glad to give Polli the first White Raven Award.

The White Raven Award and the White Raven Award Blogroll

Filed in Blog, White Raven Award

The blogosphere is full of wonderful people who have adventures of all kinds. Sometimes these adventures are there to teach us things. Sometimes they are there to share a thought. Sometimes they are adventures of the literal, conventional sort.

I believe that, in some way, everyone is interconnected, and that there is always something to learn from everyone. I’m trying to introduce Raven’s Roads readers to some of the marvelous personalities out there.

I have always wanted to create an award, so by golly, I have. Here are the award details and information on how to nominate people. Consider this my thank-you to members of the blogosphere and a bit of linky goodness for your site. :)

I’m looking for nominations. Feel free to nominate yourself and/or to nominate your friends. Please help get the ball rolling!

The blogroll is, of course, for people who receive the award and in usual blogroll fashion should be displayed within two clicks of the home page. You don’t have to join the blogroll to get a White Raven Award.

Again, here are the award details.

Enjoy!

EDIT: Please do not nominate yourself or anyone else in comments! Here is the place to nominate folk. Otherwise, how is it going to be a surprise? ;)
