One of the most fascinating parts about Locke was the many alleys that slink between buildings. There must have been almost a dozen in the tiny main street. They mostly seem to lead to private gardens, so I didn’t actually go in, but I took some pictures. I like tunnels. :) (more…)

I think the single most important tool I have as a blogger, apart from my computer, is my digital camera. I couldn’t care less about iPods, Playstations, smart phones and all the rest of it: if I could pick one single electronic item, no holds barred, for Christmas, it would be a new digital camera. I love being able to show you where I’ve gone; if I don’t have enough words to spare, I can just make a photo essay. Cropping the photos has become a pleasant evening task: something with which I can wind down. I think my blog would be two-dimensional without them, and of course they come in handy for the magazine articles too. ;) (more…)

We’re in Calistoga right now because our home has wheels and, well, because we can. :)

While looking for historical markers (you just betcha I found a few ;) I discovered that the old train depot had several neat old train carriages beside it, converted into eclectic little shops ranging from a photography supplier to a new age store. I found these absolutely delightful and spent a happy while stomping over the wooden platforms and window shopping. (more…)

Found this at one of the motels, which had a resident feral colony. One of the cats was having a nice little drink from the swimming pool. The sign in the background reads “no pets” ;)
