We set out today for a nice ride. Got the bikes out, and Ronk. Ronk. Ronk. All that groveling on the floor under my bike was to no avail and the battery really is hosed.
So we decided to bump start it. Don got out a tow rope and tethered the bikes together. We got to the end of the “street” and I popped the clutch and nothing happened. So we turned around again and tried and again, nothing. So Don got me to try from third gear. At this point I crashed. (more…)

Let’s say you experience trauma, from, say, falling flat on your back off a motorcycle.
You get bruised and your jacket and bike sustain minor damage. (And let me say how wonderful, absolutely wonderful, Arniflora arnica gel is, by the way.)
Is it just me, or is your immediate urge to eat?
I know I’m an emotional eater, but I wondered if there were something physical in the almost immediate and huge craving?

Last week after putting a deposit on the RV we headed down 99 to Merced, where we thought we would be spending the night. We had stayed in Tracy, Stockton (two different motels), Fremont, Sunnyvale and Santa Clara by that stage, and wanted to do something different. However, when we got to Merced we didn’t like the look of the motel/area so we carried on south to Turlock, a town neither of us had ever heard of before. (more…)
Bringing the bikes home: 19th & 20th October

One of the things I’d been racking my brains about how to do was bringing the bikes home. I can’t drive the van–I don’t have a class C licence–and there was no way we were going to leave the cats in a van or the storage shed even for a few hours. It seemed like one of those conundrums that had to be figured out, and fast. (more…)

“This is me on my 2004 Suzuki Volusia and this pic was taken in June while I was attending Laconia bike week. One day there was the “Ride to the Sky” up to Mt. Washington (which is highest peak in the northeast and is known for erratic weather conditions. Also, the highest wind speed ever observed was recorded at the top-231 mph). (more…)
