Scavenging on a grand scale

Filed in Morning Coffee

Scavenger hunts are fun. This one is on a global scale. Right now this site is recruiting world travelers to take part in a global treasure hunt. It’s open to the public–there will be 25 teams of two and anyone can apply. The actual event takes place next April. I’m unclear what format this will take–TV, blog, whatever–but it sure looks like fun. (No, it doesn’t appeal to me.)

If you happen to be on I-95 anyway…

Drive I-95 is a new book that tells you what all the attractions are along the abovementioned freeway, running from Maine to Florida. Pick an exit and they’ll tell you what there is to see.

The website has travel information, information about the book and (forthcoming blog–it will be up after Christmas. Sandra and Stan Posner are seasoned travelers and writers and a seasoned couple to boot. Their story is kind of cute. :)

Morning Coffee: End of an era

I was sort of sad to hear that the Queen Elizabeth II, cruise ship extraordinaire, would soon be taking her final voyage. Launched in 1967 and taking her maiden voyage two years later, (more…)

Brits ride in the rain

Filed in Morning Coffee

I started learning to ride my motorcycle in England in January. I laugh when Californians complain about the rain and how cold it is.

I am therefore rather smug to learn that UK motorcycle sales are up and that the article manages to include that most British of pastimes, a discussion of the weather.

You rock, Evelyn Warburton

Evelyn Warburton celebrated her 100th birthday by putting on a leather jacket, helmet and shades and going for a ride in a motorcycle sidecar.

Yay Evelyn!

Morning Coffee: How’s your Monday?

Are you having a Monday?

This guy is having a worse Monday.

That’s a $39,000 bike. Oops.

The Popecycle

Orange County Choppers have come up with the Popecycle, in tribute to the late Pope John Paul.

It’s beautiful. Very strange, but beautiful.

Morning Coffee: A GPS unit designed just for bikers

Filed in Morning Coffee, Motorcycling

I never knew there was such a thing.

Designed with biker input, this is a gadget (which will take a chunk of my monthly earnings) with buttons big enough for gloved fingers to poke.

Pretty darn cool, even though I can’t afford it. ;)

Morning Coffee: Bikers explore the far reaches of India

Filed in Morning Coffee, Motorcycling

Three bikers are currently exploring the outer edges of India. Riding Royal Enfield motorcycles, their goal is to capture the lifestyles of those who live so far off the beaten track. It’s quite a journey. They’re making a film. I hope it’s distributed.

Morning Coffee: Best British biking roads contest

Filed in Morning Coffee, Motorcycling

This link made me homesick.

The division of UK driver’s licensing that deals with personalized registrations is holding a contest to photograph the best motorcycle views in the UK.

Gorgeous pictures.
