Well, that’s the end of my income stream
Filed in BlogUnless RealRank really takes off, that is. Google has just demoted my PR4 blog to PR0 because I have paid posts on it. This explains why I only have access to nine opportunities this morning, all paying about $5, and 50% of them about stuff I would never write about. The only consolation is that this is most likely going to be happening to everyone, so nobody will be able to take opps. based on Page Rank.
PPP is introducing opps that allow advertisers to set their links as no-follow, which is supposed to appease the Google god, but probably won’t. For most of us, it’s too late.
I can’t help thinking that there is grounds for a lawsuit here: Google deranking certain kinds of blogs across the board without thought of the real content that most of them provide. There is something about it that smells wrong to me–discrimination, maybe. It’s just a thought at the back of my mind.
I will henceforth be boycotting Google for everything but maps at Markeroni, because there I have no alternative at this time. I will remove their ads and replace them with something else as soon as I can. At the moment I will continue with my guest posts on the blogger Blog Fairy account.
If anyone knows how to remove the Google search bar at the top of Firefox, please let me know. Likewise, if anyone knows of an alternative to Google Alerts, I’d like to hear about it.
Google is undoubtedly way too big for its boots, has become soulless, and I no longer have any time for them.

Sorry to hear about all of that. :(
You can uninstall Google toolbar by going to the add-ons selection under Tools. It’s just another Firefox extension.

You can still have the tool bar but set to search different engines. Yahoo!, Answers, CC and Technorati are all available.
For news alerts there’s Technorati and icerocket. Just go to Technorati, do a search and then you can subscribe to the search results via RSS. Icerocket.com works the same way.
Happy blogging.

You may need to go to your add/ remove programs to completely remove it.
I use newsgator for alerts.

Pussreboots: took me a while to figure out that I could change the search engine: I never saw the little arrow for drop-down before. I have it set to Yahoo, now.
I’ll look at the icerocket/technorati options too. Thank you :)

Thanks Celeste. I’m all set now–I had missed the drop-down list to change the search engines. I’ll look at newsgator too.
