An entire ecosystem in one tree

Filed in Blog, Daily Photo
Tree ecosystem

From the ivy to the undergrowth, this one tree was an ecosystem unto itself. Brambles surrounded it, flowers grew beneath, birds sang from its branches.

Mother Nature is cool.

True. When you think about it, its really wonderful how everything meshes right in and they can go on living together for years and years. I mean, I never heard of a tree asking the birds for a divorce cause it wanted some new birds..

I heard a story on NPR yesterday about Central Park at night. A lady was showing the reporter a tree they call the “boy robins’ dorm”. It seems that while the robins are nesting, all the male robins, hundreds of them, go to the same linden tree in the Park to sleep. She pointed out the specific noise they make just as they’re about to fall asleep, and then they all fall quiet at the same time. It was the neatest story I’d heard in long time!
