The alleys of Locke

One of the most fascinating parts about Locke was the many alleys that slink between buildings. There must have been almost a dozen in the tiny main street. They mostly seem to lead to private gardens, so I didn’t actually go in, but I took some pictures. I like tunnels. :)

This set had stairs that went steeply upwards, probably to the main highway. The high street of Locke is parallel to this road, but set below it down a moderately steep ramp.

This one’s more “industrial.” It’s fun to look up because they have old-fashioned electrical equipment here that you don’t often see. It leads to the back of Locke, i.e. the residences.

This one is complete with alley cat! There were dozens of cats wandering happily around this town. It’s a good place for them to be, I guess.

I gather from these pictures that I have something to learn about focusing towards a bright light source. ;)

Locke’s fascinating in California history, one of the early Chinese towns, and I love how the houses are arranged. It’s also near a huge wintering ground for sandhill cranes. I love it for a lot of reasons.

It’s not always possible to shoot away from the light source. If you have a graphics program like Photoshop there are ways of correcting the lighting.

Love the shots regardless of the lighting.

Round about the time I was arriving here there was the sandhill crane festival in Lodi, with tours to go see the cranes coming home to roost. I was so exhausted that I didn’t go…but I’ll figure out where they are and go see them, as I don’t think I ever have.

Our campground has a central football field that gets flooded, and when it does an egret comes and checks out the food sources. :)

I need to rememer to get my light metering from a wall, half-hold the button and then take the shot. I use GIMP, but haven’t really gotten into the depths of what it can do.
