Suddenly, I feel old
Filed in BlogToday, one of my younger co-workers started singing Take on Me by A-Ha. I just Googled them and am absolutely gobsmacked to find that they just celebrated their 25th anniversary.
I remember, just as clear as day, the music video for that first hit. A cute-looking cartoon character reached out from the comic book and brought a young girl into his life, promising to be good. It was beautiful, romantic, and wonderfully done. As I recall, the video won awards and rightfully so, because it was revolutionary.
A fan of A-Ha, I collected the first four or five of their albums before moving on to other things. I did not, however, have a clue that they were still in existence.
How can I possibly be so old that I can remember things twenty-five years ago as though they happened, well, yesterday? I can still remember the way the song made me feel–happy, impressed, captivated by the fantasy of this song-story. I looked forward to next week’s Top of the Pops (they always played the #1 hit each week).
Wow. Just…well, wow.

I can SO relate to that! One of the kids in my class was talking about Devo today (must have been retro music week and we missed the memo - ROFL). I thought the same thing. Ugh, how did I get so old??

I love that music video, even if I was 2 when that album came out. :)

Kelly–I don’t know. It’s obscene, isn’t it? *grin*

*chuckle* at BR: I still get a sense of disconnect when I realize you’re over 10 years younger than me. It just doesn’t feel that way at all.
