7th July, last stretch

Filed in Nevada 2006

South of Gardnerville I swung east and took a series of state highways back round to Reno. I didn’t explore anything in depth, though there are placed I’d enjoy returning to.

Wellington has a historic hotel and a set of truck weighing scales.

Wabuska has “Linda’s Bar–Bikers Welcome” and a railroad crossing.

North of there is Fort Churchill, a state park–you can see it, a bit, from the parallel road, which ends in dirt and 15 miles later will get you somewhere along highway 50.

Buckland Station is at a truly verdant place–a river valley–and used (I believe) to be a stage stop.

The largest town down there is Yerington where I failed to find the markers, and to take any pictures, though the staff at the gas station were friendly and the kid on duty was excited at my Camelbak, having never seen such a device. I told her it saved my life out here. It did.
