NaNoWrimo Day 14

Filed in NaNoWriMo2007

The usual mid-second-week blues came and went. I’m about a thousand words behind from yesterday and still have today’s quota to do. On the other hand, the plot has coalesced and the first little twist has popped out of the woodwork. I am therefore quite content with the way this is playing out.

Some time in the next few days I need to have a big session so that I can get ahead. I don’t want to have to be uploading my word count on the 30th because the site will turn as slow as molasses. I’m certainly not as far ahead as I want to be, but a few other things have cropped up that are filling our days. JR is sick (he has a UTI) and the van needs smogging. I’ve also just discovered that my camera’s zoom is starting to fail. The little switch is dying. I would actually love to get a new camera, because after nearly 13,000 photos this one really is giving me a sense that it would like to retire, but that’s not in the budget at this point.

It seems this year that I’m somehow holding myself back. I don’t quite know why, but it could just be all the distractions of setting up a new life. I think I’m going to have to try some alternative locations to write, because sitting at a desk is good for non-fiction but not as conducive to fiction. Isn’t that weird? There’s a Starbucks near here; maybe I’ll take my inner novelist there for a treat. In fact, that would be a good place to get ahead.

Anyway, gotta go. I have a load of laundry on and need to do some Markeroni work. I’m trying to do a little of all the jobs I dislike each day–housework, accounting, clearing my inbox, and Markeroni grunt work/maintenance. You can do anything for half an hour, right?

I crossed the halfway point last night just before bed. Happy writing.
