It’s been quite a week.

Pretty much all I’ve wanted to do is write, write, write. The blogathon wave is still carrying me along. I get so much joy from writing I can’t tell you. Even the paid posts are fun–a type of writing that requires more thought and care because I’m entrusted with someone’s message. I hope that it hasn’t been too much for you.

My life is going to change drastically, very soon. I have not actually been formally employed since I moved to the USA ten years ago. I’ve had contracts and I’ve worked on my business but the time has come for me to get regular work (typically, this is just as I find an income stream online, but never mind). Last week I had an interview at a new store that is opening and come 30th August I will be working more or less full time there, quite literally setting up shop! I chose to work here because I really needed to get out, get some structure in my life, and some regular income as well. Because of the uncertainties regarding where the heck we’ll be living in six weeks’ time, the boss said I could sign on as a temp and then go to hire if I stayed in the area. If not, I will be trained by then and can pick up a temp to hire for the holidays at some other branch of this store.

I’m excited, nervous, and swing between the twin feelings of “squee–new adventure!” to wanting to burst into tears because I haven’t done any traveling this year and know that it’s going to be scary-hard to hold down a full-time job and a full-time business. But I’ll do it. I’m learning how to write posts ahead and schedule them, I’m starting to establish my blogging routine, and I know that I spend way too much time messing about. I will learn to be efficient, but I’m afraid of being too tired.

In the last week, some ideas of the direction of this blog have started to coalesce. Someone noted that I live “an interesting life.” I suppose I do, but an interesting life isn’t just about going traveling and having those kinds of adventures. It’s in finding adventure in the most ordinary things, of stopping to take stock of what is right there under your nose (like the crocodiles in Sunnyvale). So now that I have a focus (and a new subtitle), I’ll be thinking about how best to write about that. I hate the idea of becoming all pompous and pretending to be this guru who waves a magic advice wand around. So I’m letting the theme brew itself like a nice cup of tea, and will still revel in the fact that I’m a biker and a traveler.

Last Sunday we went a-snarfing in San Leandro. They’d just got done putting up a new walking tour with a multitude of plaques so I was very happy. The article for this trip still needs writing, as do many others. One thing I have promised myself is to write the travelogs more quickly.

Markeroni had its fourth birthday, and is up to 524 members. I’m setting a goal of 1,000 by the end of the year.

I was itching to start the White Raven awards, so I did. I just have to follow my gut on things like that. Sometimes, when an idea is ready, it pokes at me until I let it out.

Raven - How exciting for you - might we ask what kind of store? You’ll find the time to post, to travel and work your new job. All the best to you, fellow Californian! Again, congratulations!

You certainly have a lot going on! I find that I work best under pressure, the work load seems to sort itself out. It’s when I don’t have enough to do that things fall apart…

ML: Arts and crafts. :) I don’t know about the travel–American jobs simply don’t give realistic amounts of time off. But hey, it’s just a means to an end, and I’ll enjoy it while I have it. :)

    Thanks! (Where are you located?)

Robin: I’ll soon be testing out that theory :: grin ::
