15th September: Bonar Bridge, Shin Falls
Filed in Britain 2006We went out for an afternoon run to one of our favourite haunts. Scotland looks so nice in the sunshine that one forgets how bitter the winters truly are. ;-) This time of year is different for me, I am more accustomed to going in October or November. So it is nice to see things like trees laden with red berries, flowers, and of course sunshine.
Bonar Bridge
Bonar Bridge was put “on the map” when its first bridge was built in the 19th century. Of course, it was probably around long before then. It’s always been a loo stop, but this time we had a brief look around. One of its major industries was salmon trapping as the fish made their way upstream.

Shin Falls
Further up the road are Shin Falls, brown with peat and gushing after the previous day’s rain. Often one sees salmon leaping up here, but not this time. Harrods of London own the gift shop, and they’re making a few theme park like “improvements”–luckily, these include nature trails in the woods nearby. We had treats in the cafe: for me, that turned out to be banana toffee pie. I haven’t weighed myself lately. :-P
