13th September
Filed in Britain 2006The plane arrived an hour late, took forever to taxi in, then parked at the furthest imaginable gate, and ate up my nice leisurely cushion of time between flights. On the flight I started to panic slightly as I realised it was past 8 and my flight wasn’t at noon; it was at 09:55. We were supposed to arrive about 07:10. I rushed through immigration (glad that I’m a British citizen and go through the short line) and then ran to the carousel only to wait for my bag to be almost the last one off the plane. Then I ran like crazy–customs, arrivals, endless corridors and stairs and conveyor belts to terminal 1, only to find a vast line of people waiting to check in for BMI. I grabbed a staff member and squeaked “Help!”. She got me to the front of the line and I arrived around five minutes before the gate was due to close. We boarded less than ten minutes later.
Oh, and it was grey and overcast.
Flying to Scotland, we were above clouds most of the way. It only takes an hour. My parents picked me up and we went home to wait all day for a DSL repairman who never bothered to show up. Reuniting with family was
lovely, though the little one is at school now and Not Present. In the evening we headed down to Dingwall to pick up all the things I forgot–toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush (though I refused to pay the equivalent of $15.00 for one).
I turned on my computer at 8:30 pm to write an entry, but by then I couldn’t see straight and turned it off again. I think I was asleep by the time I powered down. I’d been up for 26 hours straight with only 3 hours of bed-sleep since the previous night. I’m too old for this stuff. ;-)
